Multicats are versatile ships used for many tasks in offshore work today. They have strong winches, one or two offshore cranes, and a large flat deck. They are mainly used for towing offshore construction ships, setting and recovering anchors and buoys, but they also help with geotechnical surveys, underwater robot inspections (ROVs), recovering ammunition, and supporting dredging work. Multicats have a very shallow draft, making them perfect for working near the coast and in shallow waters. They can even get stuck on mud flats during low tide. To do even more types of jobs, many multicats now have a dynamic positioning system, which helps them stay in the right spot in estuaries and areas with strong currents.
