Rigid inflatable boats (RIBs) are small, fast boats mainly used to quickly transport offshore workers or rescue people in emergency situations. They can be fitted with a bumper system (fender) at the front to safely approach wind turbines or support ships. RIBs can carry around 10 or more people, depending on their size. They can travel at speeds between 30 and 50 knots (about 90 km/h), usually powered by outboard motors. The air-filled tubes make them very stable and able to handle rough seas safely. The hulls are typically made from materials like fiberglass, aluminium, or Kevlar. They also have special hooks (lashing eyes) that allow them to be easily lifted, stored, or launched using a crane from support ships whenever needed.
